Art for Social Change Working Group
A group dedicated to exploring the intersection of art and activism ("artivism") to address a social issue relevant to social work practice.
Art for Social Change Working Group (formerly known as the Anti-Oppression Working Group) is part of the NASW-Nebraska Chapter and is dedicated to using creativity as a transformative tool to challenge systemic oppression, spark important discussions, and foster social justice. This group believes that art, in its many forms, can be a powerful force for raising awareness and driving social change. Open to all social workers passionate about using their creative talents, expressions, and voices to promote equity, the group offers a unique opportunity to explore how artistic mediums can advance anti-oppressive practices and support vulnerable communities. Participants in this working group engage in workshops that explore new methods of creative expression, providing hands-on opportunities to learn and grow. The group also offers a platform to share artistic creations and a safe space for discussions about the role of creativity in advocating for social justice.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
NASW-NE Social Work Month Kickoff Event
March 8, 2025 from 4-6pm-- at Millwork Commons in Omaha
This event will be a time to connect with other social workers, celebrate the work and impact we have, and to view/experience social change art expression by social work students, other social workers, and advocates. It is also an opportunity for us all to explore the intersection of art and activism ("artivism") to address a social issue relevant to social work practice. Visual art, poetry, music, photography, or performance—to promote awareness, inspire action, and foster community empowerment, are all mediums acceptable for this space. We will have easels for art pieces, a screen for digital art, and a stage/mic for performance.
